How To Enjoy Your Summer When You Work Full-Time

Just because you have a job doesn’t mean you have to give up on the idea of having a fun summer season. However, you do have to be more proactive about fitting in activities that bring you joy so you don’t feel like you’re trapped in the office and missing out. Learn more about how to enjoy your summer when you work full-time:

Get Up Earlier

Take advantage of the increased hours of sunlight by getting up earlier. It may be a bit difficult at first, but using the time in the morning before work to fit in relaxing activities, such as enjoying a cup of coffee and a book while the sun rises or going for a bike ride, can give you vacation vibes, even on a regular workday.

Enjoy Your Lunch Break Outdoors

Eating lunch at your desk should be avoided during any season, but the summer especially. Go outdoors for your lunch break whenever possible, whether it’s eating at a nearby park, having a picnic, or checking out a food truck, to give yourself a mid-day mini-getaway.

Take Work Activities Out of the Office

Just because work activities must still be done in the summer doesn’t necessarily mean they must be done indoors. Consider what you can take out of the office in the fresh air, such as walking meetings or simply bringing the laptops and notebooks to a bench, so you can take advantage of the sunshine and still be productive.

Be Intentional With Planning PTO

If you wait too long to put in your vacation time requests, the summer can easily slip away and you will be left feeling disappointed that you didn’t partake in traveling or your favorite seasonal activities. At the start of the summer, be intentional about planning what you want to do this summer and submitting your PTO ahead of time – otherwise, you risk getting caught up in work and not having time to recharge.
